Looking backwards and forwards

Nothing dates faster than trying to capture the Zeitgeist. The present is the place we are told to inhabit in our daily lives but in order to change behaviour you have to look back before you can look forwards. How can we move on if we never learn from the past?

Progress then is not built on the struggle to define the present, but instead offsetting the present against what has come before. We have to look backwards before we can go forwards.
